Synopsis:
"A newly divorced woman falls for a younger man who has recently moved in across the street from her, but their torrid affair soon takes a dangerous turn." - Universal Pictures
My Review:
To sum this up in a sentence; this is a Rated R Lifetime movie. You could watch a movie just like this one on TV, it just wouldn't be as graphic. Now let's get to the three categories I review movies on.
As usual I'm going to start with acting. Jennifer Lopez was the headline name of this movie; if that isn't a red flag for you already I don't know what is (now I don't want to bash her; because she is very talented in her own right, but she isn't the best actress out there). Now she was surprisingly good in the role, but there were a few scenes were I just wanted to bury my hands in my face because of how cliché they were. Ryan Guzman plays the psychopath in the movie, now in the beginning I thought to myself "Okay, just another pretty boy here to fit the role." Then around the middle I became quite surprised and thought "Oh wow, he's actually pretty good!" And then the ending came rolling around and before you know it my mind was like "And he lost me again." Ian Nelson, John Corbett & Kristen Chenoweth definitely hit a mark. Just not the right one.
I wasn't very impressed with what director Rob Cohen did with this movie. But then again I didn't have that high of expectations here.
And finally story. Earlier in my review I said that this movie was no more than a Rated R Lifetime movie, and that couldn't be more accurate. The story had so many cliché's through out the entire movie. Right as the movie had started, I had already known how it was going to end. Not only was I right, but the entire movie reminded of one I saw back in 2012, "The Roommate" same build up, same ending, different circumstances.
My Conclusion:
Overall, I give "The Boy Next Door" 3 out of 10 stars for its Acting, Directing, & Story. Be sure to check in regularly for more Daily David Movies!
