Synopsis:
"The adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous hotel from the fictional Republic of Zubrowka between the first and second World Wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend." - IMDb
My Review:
This movie has actually been out on DVD, but I have just recently watched it for awards season; and I was very surprised by how good this movie was! To me it actually felt like a movie made back in the silent film era (though of course this one had dialogue), the craft and designing all felt like what I would see if I were to watch a silent film
Acting: This film had a huge ensemble cast so I am only going to focus on those who I felt had the most important roles. Who knew Lord Voldemort could be funny? I am a big fan of Ralph Fiennes as an actor, obviously his work in the Harry Potter franchise and even in Red Dragon. He was such a likeable character, and humorous too I might add. It was very refreshing to see an actor who I've only seen take on a very serious character/role to do something almost the complete opposite. Tony Revolori played the lobby boy and was also successful in portraying a humorous character, I thought he did a good job with what he had though I did not find him to be that outstanding. Adrian Brody and Willem Dafoe were the two antagonists in the movie and I wasn't that impressed with them, not to my surprise though. Saoirse Ronan was Revolori's love interest in the movie and I thought she did a pretty good job with what she was given.
Directing: Wes Anderson did a terrific job creating such a well balanced film. The movie was such a fun ride that somehow managed to keep you interested throughout the entire movie. The set was also brilliant and very decorative!
Story: The screenplay for this movie was so unique and so well crafted! The scene that I loved most was were Gustave makes a phone call to a hotel concierge, and in the end you see that there is like a secret society of hotel concierge's which to me was pure brilliant! I am rooting for this screenplay at the Oscars!
Conclusion:
I enjoyed this movie so much that I would say this is a movie to own in your collection! It was so well crafted and had a great screenplay that I give this movie a 8 out of 10 stars! Be sure to check in regularly for more Daily David Movies!
